I didn't see this film until about 2009 (it was a bit before my time). But even now it stands up to the test of time. The acting, the colour, the music, everything. It's not violent, or gory, or overdone with SFX. It's just a great movie that's fun for all the family without being a kiddie affair. Worth a watch, I saw this and HAD to own my own copy!!

This film was one of the first to be made in colour - and that colour literally jumps off the screen. The film stars Errol Flynn and Olivia Dehavilland, Claude Rains, Basil Rathbone and Alan Hale - so is a must for anyone who appreciates the Golden Era of Hollywood. Let's put this in perspective - the film uses no cgi, no smoke and mirrors - it really is a properly made studio epic. Today we cannot appreciate the popularity of this film - but it was immense. Errol was at the height of his fame and in the same year he made another great film - 'The Dawn Patrol'. We also now know that at the time Errol was hopelessly in love with Olivia - a love that was never requited. There is no doubt that his performance is the definitive Robin Hood. An actor cast in the role for the theatre in the eighties was told 'you'll be authentic - a saxon resistance fighter' and he said 'no I won't - if I'm Robin Hood i want green tights and a leather jerkin!' Also look out for Errol's laughing - he laughs like a man!!! Plus guess what Kevin - his accent is right!!
