Description

Greed. Compassion. Heroism. These three seemingly disparate human traits collide explosively in this unconventional, ironic, action-packed adventure. At the end of the Gulf War, a small group of American soldiers plots to steal a huge cache of gold reputedly hidden somewhere near their Iraqi desert base. After finding a map that they believe will lead them to the treasure, the men embark on a treacherous journey filled with unexpected events--a trip that dramatically forces them to confront their fears and flaws, while drastically altering their lives forever.

Pretty much standard Hollywood action-adventure with pretty boy George Clooney. The usual macho postering "We're America" war film with a veneer of moral angst. Meh.

A fantastic film from start to finish. It's not very often you see a film that's amazing in every attribute. Not only does it have great scenes and unbeatable acting, but has a fantastic storyline. A touching movie. Watch this if you liked: Band of Brothers Saving Private Ryan The Pianist

I've seen this film 20 times and it hasn't lost any of it's original charm. For me it has some of the funniest scenes in a film for a long time, the best being a cow stepping on a land mine and then the head landing on a hummer about 2 minutes later(has to be seen). Buy this and you won't be disapointed

Three Kings should be shown to anyone who thinks guns are 'cool'. Set in the immediate aftermath of the first 'Desert Storm'; this movie has perhaps the most harrowing, and thought provoking instances of 'bullet-time' and damage done with gun-play I've seen: where the bullet is shown at point of impact & then it's trail of intenal destruction as it slices through organs and viscera. That the movie does not overdo such a device means that when you are treated to the trauma on Mark Wahlberg's lungs with a bullet wound, our mortality is writ large, and makes you think. Which is good. The grainy, dusty, cinematography gives wonderful realism, the moments of slow-time have an underwater feel to them and are marvellous. All the actors are great, there's dark comedy throughout- though this is mainly reserved to the three (four) protaganists, no mean feat when you consider the terrible events unfurling around them as their 'adventure' takes them from gold bullion, to run-ins with bandit-style militias and to a moral dilemma as they are given the opportunity to save the lives of some of the desperate civilian population, or leave them to die. That Three Kings wants to be viewed as an inditement on western foreign policies is clear, and it gets its message across well. But it also has more to say about human beings fullstop. All in all a very fine film, and no common-all-garden actioner; there are tense, thrilling moments but they bring a price with them, successfully driving home the film's narrative without losing its main ambition of telling us something that we all want to know about ourselves.
