Description

Gregory Peck won an Oscar® for his brilliant performance as the Southern lawyer who defends a black man accused of rape in this film version of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. The way in which it captures a time, a place, and above all, a mood, makes this film a masterpiece. The setting is a dusty Southern town during the Depression. A white woman accuses a black man of rape. Though he is obviously innocent, the outcome of his trial is such a foregone conclusion that no lawyer will step forward to defend him – except Peck, the town's most distinguished citizen. His compassionate defense costs him many friendships but earns him the respect and admiration of his two motherless children.

I have read the book and both movie and book are both good in their own way. Of course the book goes into more details that the movie cannot but they both are equally good and i recommend both

I studied this film when I was at school a couple of years ago for my English and R.E. I can honestly say it was one of the best films I've seen although I've read the book as well and I think the film misses out some key points but the acting is brilliant! I give the film four stars because of the missng key points! But well worth the watch!

One of my favourite films! I saw the film a few years ago, read the book a while back and then watched the movie again. The movie does skip over a few bits, such as Atticus' sister moving in to give a hand raising the children, but nothing that affects the story too much I don't think and the acting is superb. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but it does deal with the issue of bigotry very well, I feel anyway, and i would recommend this movie to anyone who appreciates a good story and a well acted one at that too!
  • Great but not as good as the book

The book, although difficult to get into in the beginning, is a very good depiction of 1930's Southern America from a young girl's point of view which makes it easier to understand. The film is also very good even though it does miss out some key things. I would recommend it to anyone!

I have read the book, as painful as it was, and then proceeded to watch the film. It was dire, it truly was. Not only was the book dreadful to read, the film then somehow made it worse. The way in which the issue is presented is good, but that's all the film has... I'm sorry, you may think I'm uneducated, and maybe I am, but this is truly awful.

Truley and outstanding book VERY well written and a gripping tale about very important issues. The film however is a bit of a let down as the plot has very little to do with the book. I think it would seem a better watch to those who have not read the book.
