Great great film with a cast of super quality George Kennedy fully deserved his Oscar . If you don't think this is a fantastic film you best stick to cartoons

a film u can relate to , u will feel for paul newman's character in this my dad showed me this when i was a bit younger an i named my son after newman's character . contains the sample guns n roses used for civil war

cant add anything more to this than what everyone else has said. Wonderful movie and wonderful cast. Almost bought it but APPLE...PLEASE WAKE UP AND SORT YOUR PRICING OUT. I bought this on blu ray for less than a compressed download! I know its been said a million times but if apple made their prices more reasonable then they would sell way more copies. The blu ray is stunning by the way (and cheaper). I cant watch it on my ipad but I can watch it in full HD on a full size screen.

Cool Hand Luke is simply a masterpiece. In no way is it weak. It's funny when it wants to be, atmospheric when it needs to be, but most of all, it's emotional. It shows the rise of Luke's reputation in prison, how he was first seen as a cocky, mischevious rebel into a well respected, proud hero for the inmates. Throughout the film, he is given tasks, competes in challenges and fights his corner, which despite not all the time he succeeds, he gains the reputation from his inmates for bravery and versatility. In the last third, we see him break, and this is emotional for the viewer, as such a charming and likeable character has the little he has prison to keep him going (his reputation) gone. Paul Newman portrays one the greatest performances of all time, and gives off an almost relatable and sympathetic performance. My favourite film of the 60's along with The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Just a wonderful, uplifting and challenging viewing.

Among the last lines of the film. An anti-establishment film a little like Escape from Alcatraz, The Birdman of Alcatraz, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's etc. Subtle and slow but fabulous story-telling. Who is the establishment? You? Me? I also recommend The Player starring Paul Newman.
