I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, as did all of my family. It's long, but because it's totally engaging it doesn't seem so. Will Patten makes a great baddie, and the whole concept is original and fun. I have never understood why the critics gave it such negative reviews - other than Kevin Costner was unpopular at the time.

it's ok, but a bit too run-of-the-mill and predictable to justify being 3 hrs long. Wouldn't bother unless you're bored and have seen everything else.

Ignore the critics. They have short attention spans. Read the novel, then watch the movie.

Like the first viewer I could never understand the bile and scorn this film generated amongst the reviewers.
Perhaps not a classic it is still a very worthwhile film, in fact as I write this I'm downloading it to watch for the first time since I saw it in the cinema.

I never could understand why the so-called "film critics" panned this movie. I think it's great, and so do many of my friends, family, and workmates. Give me more of the same any time.
