Description

Keanu Reeves stars as a successful young attorney battling for his very soul with Oscar-winner Al Pacino as his sinister boss in the supernatural thriller The Devil's Advocate. Florida lawyer Kevin Lomax (Reeves--The Matrix films) brilliantly defends his guilty clients. Handpicked by John Milton (Pacino--Scent of a Woman, The Godfather films), the most powerful and feared attorney in New York, Kevin leaves his Southern roots, joining an exotic world of luxury cars, unlimited expense accounts and penthouse apartments. But his heavenly new career soon turns into hell as Milton's lure of limitless wealth, sex and fame spins out of control. As the line between fantasy and reality blurs, Kevin no longer sees his employer as just a smooth-talking businessman, but as someone much more ominous. Now, Trapped in an underworld of depravity and greed, can Kevin stop a demonic plan to spread evil well beyond the courtroom?

  • Can’t watch on my apple app via fire stick

Good film. Unfortunately I can’t watch it on my Amazon Fire stick as I’m told it will only play on an apple device. Why, oh why, oh why does apple or any of the movie studios dictate what device I can play a movie on, when 99% of my other films play on the apple app on my fire stick. Pointless meddling. Nowhere does it say when you buy on iTunes that this may happen. Will only by films on Amazon now as they are compatible with other tech, whilst apple isn’t. Happens with The Ladykillers too.

A *very* late ‘90’s movie (high concept, big names, big budget) this is an entertaining mixture of courtroom thriller and a Faustian cautionary tale. Pacino is very much Pacino here, chewing up the scenery and having a whale of a time, Keanu is Keanu ie sincere and giving it his all, but the wild card is Charlize Theron who takes the thankless wife role and adds a whole other dimension to the picture. Long, baroque and surprisingly violent, this is a very enjoyable genre mashup picture made by a talented crew and cast.

  • Theron & Reeves are Outstanding

Theron is one of those actresses who, of late, you wonder what the big deal is with her. But then you look back at her work from 20 years ago and you realise what a great and adaptive actress she is. She almost outshines Pacino.

Pacino autopilots through this banal vanity project as if he's being leased by the hour. It's just another payday. Only the anti-presence of Keanu Reeves (an actor outclassed by his own haircut) reminds you that Pacino on a bad day is better than most actors on their best. Watching this film is like eating your favourite food every night until the day arrives you realise you can never eat it ever again. Just say no.
  • Dark but very watchable

A film that explores the dark side of ambition. Anyone in business or, for that matter, any walk of life will see some characteristics of the Keanu Reeves character in themselves. Very thought provoking though the plot does have some flaws.
  • Honestly, The Devils Advocate.

An interesting film, very gripping and dramatic at times, certainly fulfilling its genre of 'Thriller'. Despite a quick and conclusive introduction which sets up the characters, the movie can however seem a little drawn out and a little cliched. This issue is based mainly on the fact, that out of 140 minutes of film, there are few real important plot points, and little indication towards a seemingly obvious, but never fully clarified conclusion. Despite several plot flaws and slightly unclear and dull moments at times, the acting quality from Reeves and Pacino were immaculate, well complimented by the supporting roles. I hope you also enjoy the film, please look out for other 'Honestly' Reviews.
