I purchased this film from iTunes some time ago as an HD, widescreen film. However I was disappointed to find that it was in the old TV ratio and a poor quality SD copy. I contacted Apple at the time. It took them some time to look at the complaint and it then was never resolved. I keep checking back to see if they have uploaded the widescreen/HD version I paid for. However it has never been changed and therefore I paid for something I never got. Very disappointing.

This is a great movie but there is no way this is the CinemaScope version ! It does not cover the entire screen without zooming it in and if it's hd I'll eat my hat , I purchased the the version but this is the TV release version , had quality not too good on my iPhone 6 but it is ok . Will watch the movie on my Apple TV see if l get the full 1080 then

First read the book which is excellent then watch this film!!!!! why oh why did the writers and director not follow the book. This could have been a classic but is now just a very good film. For example The Slave Demetrious is infact a life long friend of Marcellus. They part due to a fight between Demetrius and another Roman Tribune. Demetrius is then saved and helped to escape by Marcellus. Also Marcellus does not drink until recommended by his second in command just after Pilot puts him in charge of the Crucifixion. The fight between Marcellus and the Roman Centurian actually takes place in a fort at the beggining of Marcellus tour of duty in Palestine. So many other differences.. As I said READ THE BOOK.

I remember watching this as a child, and it is still as good now, as it was then. They seemed to have a knack for making these 'big' historical production numbers back in the 50's and 60's that is still (in my opinion) unparalleled. An excellent story about what happened the Roman officer in charge of Christ's crucifixion, who won Christ's robe in a game of chance, and the subsequent way he was affected by the events. The Roman Emperor is chillingly evil, and the whole thing is well acted, with excellent scenery and sets. A good buy, and a great film.

The lead actors and actresses in this film are exceptionally talented in their respective roles. They put their heart and soul in their expressions and performances to such an extent that they brought tears to my eyes. Not only is the scenery picturesque but also the music interludes at pivotal moments made for entertaining viewing. Nevertheless, the story line has immense potential for challenging one's faith especially when followed with the heart. This film is certainly a must see if you want to gain further insights on some extras associated with the aftermath of the crucifixion.
