When reviewers mentioned it felt depressing to watch and that it could of been better if it had some humour they missed the point exactly. Reservation Road is a harrowing piece of film. It may not be as sad to view as reading the book was but the film is one of the most poignant and honest film to come out of hollywood. The acting from Joaquin Phoenix and Mark Ruffallo are oscar winning. That last scene alone is so hard to watch to see a two men so beyond distraught you feel like you are no longer watching two peope act. great movie overall.
  • Slow moving drudgery

Slow moving drudgery. A shame. A movie so convinced of its own moral right-on-ness that it mislays the essential ingredients of plot & suspense. Instead relying on our reaction to the obvious horror of a family losing one of their younger number in a 'meaningless' accident. Schmaltz and bravado warning, over-acting throughout; particularly the female lead (whose name escapes me) who has spent way too long debating how to emote for dross such as this. Very annoying child actor warning too, if we ever did produce children who spoke like this, with such prescient wisdom, presumably boarding schools would be over-subscribed as we tried to banish them from our midst and all got drunk instead.
