Description

The names ricochet through Western lore. Jesse James (Brad Pitt) was the most notorious outlaw of his time, wanted by the law in 10 states yet celebrated as a Robin Hood in newspapers and dime novels. Teenaged Robert Ford (Casey Affleck) idolized Jesse, sought his friendship, rode with him. It wasn’t enough. The up-and-comer wanted his shot at fame. And when he got it, he took it. Pitt gives a volcanic, charismatic performance as Jesse in this saga of celebrity and obsession adapted from Ron Hansen’s historical novel by director Andrew Dominik (Chopper). “They’re all lies,” Jesse says of the stories surrounding him. A deeper, more human truth awaits in this ambitious and stirring epic film.

The acting is fantastic, particularly from Casey Affleck (Robert Ford) and scenes such as the train robbing scene are beautifully and artistically made. But as far as entertainment goes, it's a lot of hard work, particularly during the first 3/4 of the film, after that, it moves at a more captivating pace.

What a great movie. I've not a bad thing to say about it. The West as it really was, brilliant acting by entire cast and the narration of a true story (with Hollywood in the mix). Just don't expect it to be a spaghetti western - it's more authentic than that.

Really really really dull, by the end of the first hour you just can't wait for Jesse to die so you can finish the film.
  • Dragged out too long!

How can this film review such wonderful reviews? Whilst I agree that the cinematography is excellent and there is some just wonderful imagery......2 hours and 40 minutes just makes it drag on somewhat. At times I lost track of who was who, and being that I knew that Bob was going to shoot Jesse...I just wanted him to get on with it in the end! I must question the reviews saying Casey Affleck's performance was outstanding....I just got a tad fed up of his scratchy voice and him looking like he was going to cry. Yes, the scenery and imagery was beautiful but not a film I would recommend.

Brad Pitt has never been better in a film. The music is fantastic and the story is so sad! The photography should've got an oscar, I did feel rather depressed but until the end it is an amazing film!!!!! and a great price. Get it on Blu-ray!
