Description

Four years after the gut-wrenching, head-turning terrors of the boxoffice monster "The Exorcist," Regan (Linda Blair) is still possessed by the demons that took movie horror to a new dimension. John Boorman ("Excalibur," "Deliverance," "The Emerald Forest") directs this stylish sequel whose cast includes Oscar-winner Louise Fletcher ("The Cheap Detective," "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"), Oscar-nominee Richard Burton ("Equus," "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf"), Ned Beatty ("Roseanne," "Superman") and James Earl Jones ("Field of Dreams," "Clear and Present Danger").

  • Really is that bad

What everyone else says. Horribly dated - the therapy school at the start looks like a seventies BBC sci-fi spaceship. The flashbacks of the original film’s exorcism are new, featuring a Regan that looks and sounds completely different - as does the view out the bedroom window. Von Sydow in these scenes is also inexplicably terrible - his death scene being ridiculous thanks to a pantomime performance from him. Sharon from the original is also back, simply to show Richard Burton around the house (thought they all moved out?) - who turns in the most over the top, hammy performance ever. In fact, everyone is dreadful here. The only saving grace is the flashback scenes in Africa with a young Merrin - but even that quickly descends into farce. A story that is all over the place, terrible performances and zero chills or scares, this is truly diabolical. Rent it just to see how bad it is.

I had heard so many bad things about this film but after watching it I didn’t think it was as bad as all that. It’s not a worthy sequel to the original and Richard Burton is really hammy in it.

iTunes has this abomination available in the store but not the superb Exorcist 3. Just... Why?

Worst film I have ever seen. It's impossible to enjoy this film. I honestly cannot put into words how bad this film is. Just do not, do not watch this ok? This is the worst film you will ever see. No scares just stupid and boring. It's awful! Please, please don't watch this..

Beyond doubt the worst sequel in cinema history. Awful beyond description. How you can go from one of the greatest ever horror movies to this pile of dross is beyond me.

Is this film even scary because I watched the first second and it was not scary. The music is for dancing not horror.

The plot, the whole storyline, is a little too far fetched - i mean, its supernatural horror - but the exorcist one and three had a small sense of realism, and this completely lost that. It's an alright movie, and I don't regret buying it, but I can see why people dislike it, boring/irrelevant plotline, totally messes up the idea of malevolence that the demon once shone, and the only religious thing in the movie, was the idea of the demon, and the priest, whereas in the original exorcist, there was blasphemy, etc.

This has to be the worst horror flick ever made. It's so bad it's hilarious. Wooden acting, incoherent script, unintelligible storyline. Disengage brain and marvel at just how bad a sequel can be. I really enjoyed it! Astonishing! The other reviews are all correct though so don't waste your money.

whatever you do, DO NOT WATCH THIS, if you want to watch a good movie, just watch the original, it has scary scenes, brilliant tension building, good use of music, great effects (considering when it was made) and will scare the poop out of you...unlike this pathetic excuse of a film, why couldn't they have just left the exorcist as the masterpiece it was?
