Description

Charlie Croker (Michael Caine) is out of jail and on the make with an ingenious plan for the heist of the century. Aided and abetted by top criminal mastermind Mr Bridger (Noël Coward), Charlie sets off with an ace team of villains and three very special minis to lift $4,000,000 from under the noses of the Turin Police. The trouble is, with the cops and the Mafia on his tail, Charlie finds that grabbing the money is kid’s stuff compared to getting away with it.

This is a great British classic that is in HD and has CC subtitles, but sadly it’s only in stereo. It was a great price though at £3.99. ‘The Italian Job’ is a brilliant British film that deserves to have a 4K makeover and a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack added. Paramount Pictures please make it happen.

I look at all the reviews for this and am horrified to see some people talk about this masterpiece like it's just a silly little comedy with a car chase and cliffhanger at the end. This film is by far more than that. This film is a masterpiece, the script is genius, the music is great, the way the entire narrative comes together - it's incredible. Beautifully shot, incredibly put together and just an absolute pleasure to watch. The film doesn't take itself too seriously, and this really makes the whole thing feel a lot more believeable than an either completely straight-serious drama or a silly-stupid comedy. The mix is perfect. Films like this are a rare treat. Charlie Crocker is perhaps one of the best good-natured criminals ever portrayed on the silver screen, in fact - he is probably one of the best characters to have ever been written in film history, (and if you think I'm over exaggerating then tell me another character who can consistley just be actually 'cool'. Caine is the definition of 'cool'. 'The Italian Job' is one of Michael Caine's greatest achievements and really stands the test of time for being an overall classic.
