4K and Dolby vision is wasted with the video being so compressed you might as well watch it on dvd. at least it wasn’t very expensive.
  • Was this not filmed in 1.66 aspect ratio?

Why present full screen 1.33 when filmed in 1.66????

Why is this film better than speilberg's. It is a piece of cinema history. What a different planet it was in the 1950's. This was a truly ambitious film which did not rely on countless millions thrown on it's budget. This has a very strong technicolor look and the atmosphere, the farmhouse for example and the Martian war machines strings are still visible which add to its charm not removing realism. It is the film most people today identify as the war of the worlds movie than the 2005 film which is also a good film but is too much a Tom Cruise vehicle.

The best 1953 alien war film of it's time to hell with the remake this is the best one to get, sure the new one may have actors you know but they are if you pardon my words crap but the classic has more action and no screaming brat so all in for go the new and get this one.

Great Hollywood version of this movie and super effects for its time - still plays very well with story and fairly ok with characters. Only 4 stars due to widescreen framing. Have seen this many times in its original 1.37:1 (about 4:3) frame and in this case, presenting it in widescreen doesn't benefit as it does feel 'zoomed in' to me. iTunes people, any chance of getting is as a 4:3 and let me 'update' my purchase :-) However, definitely one for any Sci-Fi fan and if you haven't seen it before in 4:3, you'll enjoy it!

I first watched this film when I was much younger, and I thought it was amazing then. Taking into consideration the year the film was released; the special effects are quite extra ordinary. The story is very strong and stereotypes aside, the film is thought provoking and well directed. If you you are a sci-fi addict, like me, you should add this film to you collection.
  • Yeah, it's ok

I studied this film for my gcse media studies project, to compare it with the newer version from 2005. It's definitely a product of it's time and no way comes close to the newer version in terms of special effects, but in terms of story it is much better and leaves much more to the imagination. However in this film many of the stereotypes used in classic cinema are tapped on for resources such as screaming women and a hero figure. Overall it is a good film, and is worth the watch.
