Description

In 1553, England's idle rich were anything but idle. With the blessing of the royal family, they plundered the riches of the church, stole the finest farmlands, and generally took all the best things the country had to offer. A cousin to the infamous Henry VII, Lady Jane Grey disapproved of the way her fellow nobles behaved, and disagreed with their religious beliefs. But as a sheltered 16-year-old, there wasn't much she could do about it. Then, through a strange turn of events, Lady Jane Grey was crowned Queen Jane, ruler of all England. Based on the true story of the girl who found herself Queen of England for nine days at age 16, Lady Jane is a historical romance at its bittersweet best. Look for Patrick Stewart as Henry Grey, Duke of Suffolk.

I am an historian & studied the Primary Source Material on the life of Lady Jane & Guilford & this does not touch even 2 out of ten for the truth. As a film of pure fiction which it is, I give 5 stars for enjoyability & feeling.

Well, What can I say? As a major Cary Elwes fan I dug this film out to see and I was not dissapointed. This is a truly wonderful film, filled with marvellous actors and a beautiful script by the wonderfully talented Trevor Nunn. A true classic, and although in parts not historicailly accurute. A beautifully romantic film that tears at the heart strings. Well worth a look. xxxxxxxxxxx

I'm a bit disappointed because historically I don't think the film's very accurate. Jane Grey allegedly detested her husband according to what I've read about her so the plot was not what I expected. Worth a watch though, i like Helena Bonham Carter but I don't think she captured how tortured and manipulated the real Jane Grey was.

I have never been more compelled to write a review than after watching this film. I don't know too much about the real Lady Jane but absolutely fell in love with Helena Bonham Carter's portrayal of her. This film had me hooked from start to finish and I enjoyed every second of it.
  • tacky and cheesy

its worth seeing for helena bonham carter's acting only. don't expect much of the script: mediocre.

One of my all time favourite films - I am not a historian and enjoy it as a love story rather than a period piece, I cannot comment on it's accuracy on that front. Unfortunately, the heart wrenching ending was a given for the film to be historically precise and it is a tear jerker.
