Description

Academy Award-nominee Edward Norton (Best Actor, 1999, American History X) heads an amazing all-star cast in the critically acclaimed Spike Lee (Summer of Sam, Do the Right Thing) film 25th Hour. In 24 short hours Monty Brogan (Norton) goes to prison for seven long years. Once a king of Manhattan, Monty is about to say good-bye to the life he knew -- a life that opened doors to New York's swankest clubs but also alienated him from the people closest to him. In his last day on the outside, Monty tries to reconnect with his father (Brian Cox, The Bourne Identity), and gets together with two old friends, Jacob (Philip Seymour Hoffman, Almost Famous) and Slaughtery (Barry Pepper, The Green Mile). And then there's his girlfriend, Naturelle (Rosario Dawson, Men In Black 2), who might (or might not) have been the one who tipped off the cops. Monty's not sure of much these days, but with time running out, there are choices to be made as he struggles to redeem himself in the 25th hour.

I'm a big fan of Edward Norton, and there are some big actors in this film. The storyline is very slow, the acting is fine but there is no captive of the audience. I switched off after 1hr

This film was ok, but it wasn't amazing, as I had hoped & expected from the reviews. The story doesn't really go anywhere (it focusses mainly, on a drug dealers last day before a seven year stint in prison) & none of the films characters garner empathy or sympathy so I didn't care what happened to any of them either way. Considering the fabulous cast I was left more than a little disappointed wondering why this film had received such a high rating. The film was instantly forgettable for me - I couldn't even remember the name of it the following day.

I am big admirer of Edward Norton his work and him generally and 25th Hour to me ranks as one of his best films. It tends to get overlooked though, and I'm not sure why. He plays a flawed but vulnerable character which he is good at doing, he has good co-stars including the very excellent Phil Seymour Hoffman. I suspect the film gets short shift in some quarters as Norton chose to collaborate with Spike Lee for this film, and Spike gets a mixed reaction from critics and cinema audiences. That should not however deter you from watching. Norton continues to choose quality projects, continues to remain his own person in the industry and this alone should recommend the film. iTunes could we have his work featured maybe?

This has become one of my all time favourite films. Directed by the fabulous Spike Lee and starring Ed Norton and a great cast I was reeled in within the first 5 minutes. The soundtrack is gut wrenching and pulled me right in to the extent that I almost forgot I was watching actors on a screen. Actually I bought the soundtrack as well it really is stunning. There are some comedy moments and plenty of scenes that moved me to tears. For me it's 5 stars across the board. Rent it now!

Very good film. Love Ed as an actor and he is amazing in this like he was in American History X. Especially like the speech in the mirror, genius!

So dull, we didn't finish watching it. The opening sequence failed to grab, but we thought we'd give it a fair try. After 30 minutes we couldn't continue...

I actually thought this film was very well done. Lot's of meaning, nothing over ripe with plenty of good acting and subtlety that seems to be missing in films these days. I'm usually very critical of films, but this is definately worth a watch i'd say!
