Wretched!!

With an open mind I sat down and watched the film version of the Radio and TV series of Douglas Adams most entertaining work.
Where do you start?! The cast I think....Yes! The cast. Who or what were they thinking when thy cast Sam Rockwell as as Beeblebrox? All he seemed to do was shout - Why?? Martin Freeman just looked confused most of the time and not in an entertaining way as Simon Jones did, then there is Ford Prefects character duly assasinated by Mos Def! What the hell were they thinking??
I know this may seem like a an unqualified rant but, for goodness sake couldn't they have done better? Only saving grace were the inputs from Stephen Fry (The voice of the book) and Warwick Davis (The Robot). The rest........Rubbish.
Problem = Too much stupid shouty Americanisation of a cracking script
Solution = Never let Hollywood knacker up another Douglas Adams script.
Summary = It was noisy, stupid, irritating tat! It was hyped to promise so much and delivered the equivalent of a Mogadon Sandwhich.

Because, where are all the jokes? Even when they take some bit of material that had a joke, they still remove most of the actual joke. (Ford pretending to try to get them out of the airlock becomes Ford attempting to get them out? I'm not sure exactly, which basically means that it doesn't work.)
When this came out, I think I was annoyed that Ford was played by Mos Def (and that Zaphod was American), and I was wrong for thinking that.
Any Hitchhikers adaptation without the "...beware of the tiger" exchange is essentially worthless.
The Vogons can be funny

This was not intended to be the series, book or radio show. It is a rewrite intended to make the Vogons more funny and therefore it works, enjoy.
Hollywood Tosh?

Douglas Adams always believed that The Hitchikers Guide To The Galaxy should be different in all it's different incarnations. The film is no exception, it's not the book or the radio series or the record. It has a solid cast including a cameo by Mr Adams himself, Stephen Fry is sublime as the voice of the book. For all those naysayers that complain that this film suffers from hollywood interference I suggest that you take another look at the credits, screenplay by Karey Kirkpatrick and Douglas Adams.
Not like the book, tv series or radio series but still very good

Even thought it isn't like the listed above, it is still funny and an interesting adaptation.

I was very disappointed with this film as I expected it to be at least slightly like the original book! But no it's not! This ruined the film for me, however, if you don't know the book version the film is relatively good hence the two star rating.
