Description

Based on a true story, the film follows two friends in their early 20s (Hill and Teller) living in Miami during the Iraq War who exploit a little-known government initiative that allows small businesses to bid on U.S. Military contracts. Starting small, they begin raking in big money and are living the high life. But the pair gets in over their heads when they land a $300 million deal to arm the Afghan Military—a deal that puts them in business with some very shady people, not the least of which turns out to be the U.S. Government.

If you're going to have a narrator through a film, you at least need a voice with presence to convince and engage you of the drama unfolding. The narrator's voice is so dull that even if the writing was interesting and well crafted which it isn't, he would have sapped it of any. I think it wasn't just the characters in this film that where smoking weed.

A great little amusing film, based on truth, but a good laugh all the way round. These crumbs they go on about saw a USMC unit equiped with some fantastic cold weather lighweight clothing. Based on that sale the British gave the guy a contract, then the Americans came back for more. My role.. stop him from going bankrupt before he got paid. This film is totally believeable. Watch it and laugh.

For a comedy, I just don't think it was that funny.
  • Funny and challenging in equal measure

Littered with references 80s classic Scarface, War dogs combines elements of a buddy movie, a road movie and a crime movie to make a very enjoyable ride. The protagonists are slowly drawn in by the moral compromises of small-scale arms dealing in a world where no-one, not even the US government or military is entirely free from blame. The film does not take itself too seriously though, there are plenty of dry laughs to be had along the way!
