Description

Seven days, more than 1,000 miles, 20 cars, two boats, a motorbike and one dream...The Perfect Road Trip. The aim: to select the ideal mode of transport for each leg of a pilgrimage from Venice, Italy to Pau in France – home to a legendary street circuit and the origins of Grand Prix racing. On the way we prepare by taking to the track at Monza – the home of Italian Formula One. We try to get noticed on the road course in Monaco in a Bugatti, a Lamborghini and a Model T Ford. After cruising the canals in Venice we take to the tarmac and things look good - thanks to the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and Mercedes SLS Black. Throw in a Pagani Huayra, Porsche Cayman S and a GT3 as well as the Aston Martin Vanquish centenary edition, Bentley V8 convertible, Rolls Royce Phantom coupe and the face-bending BAC Mono all seems pretty perfect to us. There’s culture too. An all-out effort to get the Birmingham burger-boy to savour the culinary delights of Italy and France – including octopus and an old balcony. Then it’s time to turn up the heat even more with a Top Gear race... and the worst forfeit in television history. Finally we head to the historic road course in Pau. Surely nothing could spoil our Perfect Road Trip... Enjoy! Jeremy Clarkson & Richard Hammond.

  • No way is it worth £15!! And the ending...

Let me start off by saying it’s not all bad. The cars featured throughout the program are ‘perfect’, however there were moments when I thought a bit more time could have been spent talking about the car rather than the locations they were at - I didn’t feel I learnt anything new about any of the cars featured. That’s about it. Negatives? It’s nowhere near as funny as a normal Top Gear episode. It’s missing James May which I feel takes away a great deal from the whole thing - Jeremy and Richard don’t manage to create the usual Top Gear atmosphere by themselves, lending a great deal to the less comedic feel. But worst of all is the price… £15 for less than 90 minutes?! The fact you have to pay is bad enough - we all pay a licence fee and I don’t see why this couldn’t have been made into an episode for a series (especially now that each series is a pathetic 6 episodes in length). Finally, and this really peed me off, the ending. Just before finishing they talk fully about the cars they’ve chosen for the final racetrack and more to basically build up the next scene of them being at Pau racetrack. But then they basically say oh we got caught by the police so we can’t do that anymore, Bye. How pathetic. Don’t spend £15 on this, wait for it to drop significantly in price or erm find another erm source that won’t charge for it ;)

I am a massive Top Gear fan. One of the biggest. And when I saw a new special episode on iTunes I was elated. Then I saw the price. You can debate whether it's "worth" 15 quid all day but that is purely subjective. What really gets me is that our licence fee paid for this show to be made so how on earth can they justify charging £15 to watch it when we've already paid to do so?!
  • Just taking the mick out of us now

It was once a great programme, it’s balance is not so good anymore, so I generally look forward to the longer episodes with cars I, after all, would only dream of owning. But at £16, you guys really have lost your way, get the 'value for money' sat nav out and choose a better route! I won’t be buying this until it’s at the £7.99 level, you’re a TV spin off, not a blockbuster movie.
  • Amazing again

I really enjoy anything Top Gear, and this was not disapointing. It had nearly everything you'd expect from a Top Gear special, just missing James May. My only criticism is the price tag, but if you like cars, laughs and don't mind paying for something that you will want to watch again and again then it is definitely a must have. Go on, enjoy
  • Not worth £15.99 and the ending is pants

As the title says. Great bit of TopGear action as per usual but it ends on a huge anti-climax and my god that wasn’t worth £15.99.
  • It is excellent but is it worth £15.99?

Well another brilliant performance from the Top Gear team but I must say that it is a shame that James May is not in it. . I suspect that there were no inclines in that programme as steep as the pricetag. Being the avid Top Gear fan that I am a put caution to the wind and put aside part of this weeks' shopping budget in which to pay for it. Go on loose a few pounds. . Buy it!!!!
