Description

Kim, Den and Dr Moore return to the daily grind on ward B4 in the backwaters of the National Health Service. As series two begins, the legacy of Kim's threatened suspension still lingers, while Den and Hilary's relationship is no clearer than before and, as always, new patients bring new problems. Elsewhere, a planned new wing is dangled before the staff like a carrot, complete with glossy photos, and Pippa's investigation into stools finally gets the recognition it deserves. Dark comedy starring Jo Brand, Joanna Scanlan and Vicki Pepperdine.

After working on a elderly ward a few years ago I can relate to many of the situations & people, the posh consultant, the down to earth nurse, the nasty patient, the dry humour is spot on. This is probably the most realistic medical comedy/drama i've seen. Series 2 is still very funny but not as good as the first series & episode 3 was a little slap stick for my liking. But I love Vicki Pepperdine as Pippa Moore, the frosty posh consultant with no people skills who is under the delusion she runs the ward, what a icon.

Getting On series one was cleverly written and contained great acting from the main characters. I glad to see series two has continued in the same vein. Obviously written by people who have worked in this field, it feels like they have drawn upon real experiences they encountered on the job. Witty situations, sometimes rather sad story lines and, yes, a little bit of toilet humour, all blend together to make this a very enjoyable series. Most areas look like being covered: homophobia in the workplace, office ( or ward in this case) romance, staff hierarchy 'slash' bullying situations and odd medical cases. The storyline where the doctor was desperate to keep a 60 odd year old patient in the ward because she was pregnant and this would have probably have led to another paper in a medical journal, was so true to life. Keep up the clever writing, and original story lines. The only thing I don't like about this second series is the terrible camera technique used. Sorry but it gives me a headache.
