Description

After the appearance of mysterious bright lights in the sky, the whole world wakes up blind. There are only a few sighted survivors left to work out a future for humanity. However, that future is threatened by the existence of the mysterious, intelligent, and worst of all, mobile plants known as Triffids. These deadly plants were farmed as an alternative energy source to help humanity survive without fossil fuels, but now they must be stopped, as John Wyndham's classic futuristic chiller is brought alive.

    This scared me silly as a kid, watching with goosebumps on a borrowed black and white telly in my bedroom - far more than Doctor Who. It stands the test of time far better than that series, too, despite sharing a propensity for slightly dodgy effects. But that's to be expected, given it was made in 1981, and they get around it by making the character focus and the tension the main stars. Still gripping, still relevant and still brilliant - even after 28 years - the Day of the Triffids still makes me nervous. An excellent series.
