Description

In the not-too-distant future, vampires have come out of the coffin. Mass-produced synthetic blood has allowed these oft-maligned creatures of the night to walk freely among us…no longer in need of a human fix. But can a young Louisiana waitress forge a love match with a vampire? HBO presents the thrilling first season of this drama series created by Alan Ball (Six Feet Under) and based on the best-selling “Sookie Stackhouse” novels by Charlaine Harris. Mixing romance, suspense, mystery and humor, Season One introduces Sookie (played by Anna Paquin), a perky Louisiana waitress with telepathic gifts and an irresistible attraction to a 173-year-old bloodsucker named Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer). Surrounded by colorful local folk, Sookie sets out to prove that humans and vampires cannot only co-exist—they can find something akin to true love.

For all those saying this is a twilight rip off, it's based of the sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris, the first of which was published in 2001... BEFORE TWILIGHT ON BOOK EVEN CAME OUT! This really is a great show, and instead I would stop watching twilight.

What can I say? The series bores me to tears; -The contrived love story of a hundred-something vampire and what is essentially a child is absolutely ludicrous, insane, and to be frank, a little creepy. It is the equivalent of a 40 year old being interested in a 12 year old; something the show doesn't address in the slightest (the unique 'talents' of anna paquin's character only establishes her interest as a subject to study, not as a love interest), because it simply can't-there's no reason in the world why such an old and otherwise mentally stable person would be interested in someone who is so utterly uninteresting as an individual. -The only character I can genuinely see the audience caring for is Tara, and her struggle with her alcaholic mother; the character breathes, reacts emotionally and realistically, and for all intents and purposes, goes above and beyond the call of duty. The vampire Bill is dead, quite literally. I don't blame the actor (he was a part of RSC, after all), but whoever's responsible should hang their head in shame-he feels almost nothing visually, and is as bland as the person sitting next to you on a bus stop, or in your office. The only motivations of his that you can deduce can be done so only from the dialogue; and to be frank, the dialogue is slim pickings-he is a plot device. A 'dreamy' quiet-giant/gentleman/man-of-few-words archetype that would sicken those with discriminating taste, or the good sense to know the carbon-copy of a stoic role model when they see it. Other characters are inane; Sam, the bar owner, has some inner demons, but you don't care. Plain and simple-he doesn't egg the audience on, and the audience doesn't give a rat's ****...Anna Paquin's character could be irritating, and relatable, but in no way artistically gratifying or culturally significant. A naive idiot with no discernable life-goal who has been given super-powers through the cruel irony of the world. The preformance is average. Jason, the hedonistic and womanizing brother is an idiot to laugh and point fingers at, but that gets old soon. It doesn't help that he is a one-note actor, who can only act as a 'concerned' jason, or 'paranoid' jason. Lafayette's shennanigans provide entertainment, but he hardly has 5 minutes per show. -The storylines are boring. It's subjective, but I am able to enjoy vampire-related plots and approached this series with an open mind. I did not care one bit for the characters or the world they lived in by episode 6. Not 'ONE' BIT. Rent this, or find some other ways of watching this before putting the cash down; you might save yourself some money.
