Description

Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited is the story of a vanished generation: the wealthy, careless, independent men and women clinging precariously to a way of life gravely eroded by one war, soon to be swept away forever by another. This is the classic tale of a young painter, Charles Ryder, who falls under the spell of an eccentric, aristocratic English family. Starring Jeremy Irons, Anthony Andrews and Diana Quick, with John Gielgud and Laurence Olivier.

anthony blanche! a favourite character of mine adds a spicy flavour to the very fine acting in this classic tv series, its only surpassed by the writing of the original book! there was a remake some years later worthy of slight attention, except if you watch this made for tv version first you will be as anttoine would say "mesmerized" the potrails of love and then betrayal, cut into the very fabric of your being, whilst we all know the past can come crashing in on anyone of us, when ever it chooses, anthony andrews and jeremy irons are the "gentle men", its sad in this day and age, a "gentle man" is lost in time, a forgotten symbol of good manners and taste

A true television masterpiece, its hard to think of any adaption of a classic novel that could be better than this. The acting is perfect across the board, hasn't dated at all in 30 years. I really can't praise enough, you will watch again and again!

Nothing can detract from the enormity of this drama. I saw it when it first went out on ITV and seeing it again hasn't changed my mind.

The title sums it all up. I am hooked after only one episode. Fantastic!

As with so much on iTunes this does not represent any cost saving, i can purchase a DVD in a box in a shop or by post and play it in any DVD player for less!

I watched this on its original showing in 1981. It is quite simply a masterpiece. Flawless acting by the two leads, one relatively well known then the other not quite so (Jeremy Irons). It is superbly filmed, directed and acted, especially Anthony Andrews as the alcoholic Sebastian and quite sumptious in its settings. It also remains faithful to Evelyn Waugh's novel. I have watched the trailer for the newly made film version and it doesn't even begin to equal it. Yes you can get it a little cheaper elsewhere but what is £2.00 really and if like me you've been burgled this year, fortunately they didn't take this DVD but they did others one I can't replace, it's worth the extra. iTunes provides superb quality media. Watch this you will not be disappointed. It has stood the test of time over 27 years,
