The new part of Diana and Matthew’s relationship and new locations works well within this season and it’s great to see them in this new part of their life. It differs from the book slightly but that is to be expected as always with book adaptations. Can’t wait for the next series.
  • Disappointing after high hopes

Having waited for months for this to be released it feels empty of depth and vibrancy of life in the 16th century scenes (eg the lack of people and crowds which is probably covid but still impacts overall result) and Oxford etc. However the worst part which has really let this series down is the large and numerous smaller deviations and alterations from the book, both in terms of story lines, location of events and finer details. It is all wrong and a huge let down because of it. Love the actors and costumes etc and it isn’t their fault in the slightest but the producers and writers have really dropped the ball on series 2. Rather than mess with the book, make a few extra episodes and stick to the order, focus and detail of the book rather than basically rewriting it and focusing too much on characters that don’t need so much especially in this series. Don’t watch if you are expecting it to reflect the book closely as you’ll be disappointed.
