Amazing series. If you study astrophysics or have a decent knowledge of the subject, you won’t learn anything new here. However, then you can(and should try) just appreciate it for what it is. An incredible composition of filmmaking & music, with Cox at his best. For me, this series goes into one of my all time favourites, it’s the Planet Earth of space documentaries. Brilliant, beautiful & moving.

This could have and should have been a fantastic journey into the depths of our solar system. Catering to all viewers with varying degrees of scientific understanding. Instead, it’s a cgi fest with low level science and boring exposition. Brian cox literally sets up every shot walking to a point , usually the end of A a cliff and then delivering his contrived script while staring off into the distant as if to create a profound moment . It’s cringeworthy. For all the money spent on cgi could they not have invested in getting actually scientists to speak? Share their research? Waste of time and effort

Over 40 years of watching BBC programs, i will no longer fund it, the science and history programs were incredible. No longer sadly, celeb types airbrushed with CGI.

I wanted this to succeed, but it is all 'Spaaaaace, the final frontier', a sub-'O' level exposition of the way the solar system works. I keep hearing things like 'As good as Jakob Bronowski', but it's not. It really isn't. There is a place for this sort of thing, as an entry-level programme but, please, give us something higher, and stop pretending it is a work of intellectual genius. We are re-watching The Ascent of Man. It's still challenging but accessible. Can we have something like that, please? And I don't mean the BBC4 fillers. It's not as if this is something that someone who studies astrophysics would watch to relax. It would annoy them intensely. Please can someone at the BBC produce something that makes us think?
