Description

Into the Woods is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy)—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife (James Corden and Emily Blunt), their wish to begin a family, and their interaction with the witch (Meryl Streep) who has put a curse on them. Rob Marshall, the talented filmmaker behind the Academy Award®-winning musical “Chicago” and Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” helms the film, which is based on the Tony®-winning original musical by James Lapine, who also penned the screenplay, and legendary composer Stephen Sondheim, who provides the music and lyrics.

What an awful film. I literally have never ever said this, but this film gave no indication of its musical inclinations. I went into to the cinema approx six plays years ago and have never forgotten the awful experience. Forget people saying “easy to follow plot line” it’s entirely chaotic, makes ZERO sense, and is so so annoying. Honestly you’ll wish you had tinnitus instead.

So 1 star for the film and the other for a fine ensemble cast. However, the film doesn’t use them well. It’s a film I wanted to like but it was just garbage.

Bought this because I have to learn it. I tried to watch the dvd but it was just too much to suffer all in one go - hopefully, keeping this on my phone will enable me to watch a little bit when I have absolutely nothing else to do and I’m feeling masochistic. Avoid unless you have no choice.

If you're thinking this is going to be another Disney great think again. Everything and I mean everything is in song, no dialogue at all. It just doesn't work as a film. My daughter normally loves the Disney story and song musicals like Tangled or Cinderella but she was bored of this within 15 minutes. It's just too much.

It started out really good. Plot was interesting but it seemed rushed like trying to cram too much into such a short time frame. The ending was abrupt. What seemed like a brilliant film turned out to be plain rubbish.
