Description

Eric (Jack O’Connell) is a violent young offender, prematurely thrown into the dark world of an adult prison. As he struggles to assert himself against the prison officers and the other inmates, he has to confront his own father, Nev (Ben Mendelsohn); a man who has spent most of his life in jail. As Eric forges allegiances with other prisoners, he learns that his rage can be overcome and discovers the new rules of survival. But there are forces at work which threaten to destroy him.

This film would be worth watching for Jack o’connell’s acting alone, I can’t think of another actor that portray’s brute strength with vulnerability so well.

I can't explain how much I love this film. It's made me cry so many times even though I know it's coming. Im sat on the edge of my seat all the time, saying the actors lines with them. I'd say I'm quite addicted to this film, and class it as my all time favourite. Really hope theres going to be a Starred Up 2 as I simply cannot get enough of it!

I don't normally like 'chavvy' films but this is one that is so well done it's worth a watch. It's raw, gripping and well acted. It's packed with surprises and unexpected humour. In the end I was left rooting for the criminal.
