Description

The latest film from visionary director David Lynch, Inland Empire is a labyrinthine mystery which reunites him with Laura Dern, star of his earlier masterpieces Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart. Dern plays Nikki Grace, an actress preparing for her biggest role yet; a hollywood movie from an acclaimed director (played by Jeremy Irons) opposite an amourous leading man (Justin Theroux). But when she finds herself falling for her co-star, she realizes that her life is beginning to mimic the fictional film that they're shooting. Adding to her confusion is the revelation that the current film is a remake of a doomed polish production, 47, which was never finished due to an unspeakable tragedy. Working for the first time on digital video, Lynch has crafted a dazzling and disturbing vision of disintegrating identities and shifting realities which ranks amongst his very best work.

I am a fan of David's work, so I knew what I was getting into. If you're not a fan of surrealism then don't watch this. You will not enjoy. The pacing can be a bit off at times and the lack of studio lights is quite distracting, however this is one of Lynch's best films. It is immensely tense and disturbing, with a great performance by Laura Dern.
