Description

Christmas is not a time of celebration for the tight-fisted Ebenezer Scrooge (Alistair Sim). Scrooge turns aside all charity, treats his overworked clerk Bob Cratchit (Mervyn Johns) with contempt and regards all kindness as 'humbug'. One night, Scrooge is visited by the ghost of Jacob Marley (Michael Hordern), his late business partner.

    Absolute perfection. From a time when actors were not only able to learn complex lines but deliver them naturally and fluently. Compare the dialogue of the house-servants haggling over Scrooge’s possession to anything filmed today and the modern movie will come up wanting :)

    I recall watching this as a child and it was an old film then, still fantastic to watch and Alister Sim still the best out there for the role of Scrooge.
