In 1776 South Carolina, widower and legendary war hero Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson) finds himself thrust into the midst of the American Revolutionary War as he helplessly watches his family torn apart by the savage forces of the British Redcoats. Unable to remain silent, he recruits a band of reluctant volunteers, including his idealistic patriot son, Gabriel (Heath Ledger), to take up arms against the British. The Patriots was a terrible film when it came out in the 90s the only good thing about the film is that Heath Ledger got some experience during the making of the film he was terrible in the film as well anyone who studied history and I mean world history not the fairytales that the Americans read in their history books I had to force myself to watch the film because it was so full of inaccuracies and the most cheesiest dialogue you can tell most of the budget went in too the Battle at the end of the film back then every action film had to have a British or German baddie !! Don’t get me wrong I loved Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto that film was pure genius his best film ever and one of my favourites but basically the Patriot was just Braveheart 2. But it is true that history is written by the winners so they can make up any old version of the truth keep that in mind.Next time you’re watching an American action film that based on a true story yeah right

Great film - One of Mel's best films and Jason Isaacs is absolutely brilliant as the bad guy!
