Description

The Hunt unfolds in a small provincial town in the days leading up to Christmas. Lucas (Mads Mikkelsen), a forty year old divorcee, is finally getting his life under control. He's got himself a new girlfriend, a new job and is in the process of re-building his relationship with his teenage son, Marcus. But things soon start to unravel. Nothing significant, just a slight comment here, a random lie there. As the snow falls and the Christmas lights are lit, the lie spreads like an invisible virus. The shock and mistrust gets out of hand, and the small community suddenly finds itself in a collective state of hysteria, while Lucas fights a lonely fight for his life and dignity. The Hunt is a disturbing depiction of how a lie can quickly become truth, a modern tale of a witch-hunt, injustice, guilt and ultimately, forgiveness. A fable on how fragile a community can become when gossip, doubt and malice are allowed to flourish. It is a stirring portrait of a man struggling to exonerate himself, and a father and a son reaching out for one another as their world crumbles.

This is a really fantastic film. One of the best I’ve seen in years. An enormously powerful story, with intelligent and convincing acting performances. I was gripped throughout. Oscar material…

The Arriflex Alexa camera and Mads Mikkelsen conspire to make this one of the most beautiful films. Highly, highly recommended.

A truly amazing film, however exceptionally dark. I don’t think I can find any true fault in it (the way it ends maybe?). Not necessarily pleasant viewing, but a truly amazing film.

Don’t be put off by the subtitles. You are immediately drawn into the film and the characters are very strong. A real emotional roller coaster but well worth the watch. Excellent acting too.

I really don’t like watching sub titled films, but after reading some positive reviews about the hunt I decided to give it a go… WOW am I glad I did, seriously this film is absolutely gripping, someone else used the word powerful and it describes this story perfectly. The main character you will recognise from James Bon ‘Casino Royale’, remember the baddy who bleeds from his eyes with the silver inhaler… Without giving anything away this film is moving, brilliantly and believably acted and subjects you to the whole spectrum of emotion, it’s shot in such a wonderful landscape too, this really is a must watch and such a shame that many won’t purely because it’s not in English, as they will miss out.

Was great! Especially when on rent for only 99p! Loved the plot but found the ending a bit dull, never the less a great film

Gripping and powerful drama, Mads Mikkelsen gives a tour de force of a performace. This film is just brilliant from start to finish.

What a brilliant film. Seen the positive reviews and decided to rent it. Acting is stunning. The pace of the movie is slow but somehow you're kept on the edge of your seat it is so engrossing. Hadn't heard of the film until now but would put it down as one of my favourites in the last year. Highly recommended.
