Description

Over the last five years an independent record shop has closed in the UK every three days. Sound It Out is a documentary portrait of the very last surviving vinyl record shop in Teesside, North East England. A cultural haven in one of the most deprived areas in the UK, Sound It Out documents a place that is thriving against the odds and the local community that keeps it alive. Directed by Jeanie Finlay who grew up three miles from the shop. A distinctive, funny and intimate film about men, the North and the irreplaceable role music plays in our lives. High Fidelity with a Northern Accent.

  • An Inspiring Documentary

I agree totally with the first two reviewers. I, too, found this film by accident. It was shown really late one night on BBC4 and it left a lasting impression with me. The film illustrates just how important independent shops such as "Sound It Out" are to community life. They are not just there to sell things but they also act as a shared focal point for people whose own situation is not as fortunate as most.

This film breaks my heart - in a good way. It also makes me want to play Status Quo at the highest volume \\m//

I first saw this documentary on TV, and thought it a shame I would never see it again. By accident I searched for it on itunes, and here it is. Amazing for the price. Anyone interested in vinyl or record shops I would recommend.
