To let everyone know, NO is shot in 4:3 umatic, giving it a televisual look of the time. Oh, and if you watch it remember that Thatcher (never had to work,married a multi-millionaire) was best friends with Pinochet.

First movie rented from iTunes on HD. Expected film to be in widescreen but movie aspect is 4:3 therefore view with side bars on widescreen tv. Annoying that subtitles are often too wide for the frame and the sides cut off. Movie interesting but a bit difficult to follow as lots of dialogue and have to read subtitles fairly fast.

This film is incredibly effective, mixing 30% of real footage seamlessly with the fictitious. The actors are brilliant , the atmosphere is intense and its completely believable- but ....therein lies the problem - its cinema verité but without the reality. It barely hints at the real organised grassroots opposition to Pinochet, emphasising the advertising campaign at the expense of the real 'work' and given its already having effect in the Middle East as an example of how to campaign -art influencing life -I fear its oversimplification, and its reliance on promoting the media as the catalyst for Pinochets downfall. I can also understand many Chileans anger and disquiet at the background of the Director, Pablo Larrain, from a family of exceptionally wealthy Pinochet supporters. This seeming 're-owning' of Chileans liberation and the avoidance of the reality behind it must be very difficult to swallow for those involved. If however it encourages people to do further research, then well and good.
