Description

James Bond, the world's greatest secret agent, is sent once more into the breach in the name of Queen, Country, and a dry martini. In the 19th Bond adventure, 007 (Pierce Brosnan) must resolve a potentially deadly power struggle between two unstable nations, with control of the world's oil supply as the ultimate prize. Bond is assigned as bodyguard to Elektra King (Sophie Marceau), the daughter of a petroleum magnate who was brutally murdered, and is trying to foil the fiendish plot of Renard (Robert Carlyle), a villain who was shot in the head with an unusual result: he cannot feel physical pain, an apparent failing that proves to be a considerable asset. Denise Richards appears as Dr. Christmas Jones, an expert on nuclear weapons, alongside Desmond Llewelyn as Q, Judi Dench as M, Samantha Bond as Miss Moneypenny, and John Cleese as R. Alternative rock band Garbage performs the theme song.

You can buy a collection of the blu rays for about £50 (minus Spectre). Old reviews from the collection previously listed on the Apple Store suggest they used sell this for roughly the same price but then doubled it. Now they no longer offer the collection and want roughly £9 for each film!!!!! I have no idea what the distribution company is playing at but this pricing is absolutely insane and is stopping me from purchasing these films. Avoid until the price drops or just buy the hard copy.

You can’t review this film without mentioning Q, Desmond’s final appearance (which despite his terrible sudden death - I still think would of been his last Bond) makes this movie memorable in itself. The longest running opening sequence to any Bond also gives it a unique stand out quality but apart from that, it’s a great normal Bond. Sexy Bond girl/turn villainess gives the plot that classic twist and gives the story some spice. Renard is also a memorable Bond villain with a bullet stuck in his head who feels no pain. Denise Richards a little bit wasted and certainly doesn’t fit the role of a scientist, and a few too many references to the turn of the millennium give the film a stamp dated feel. Talking of wastage though, thankfully it was it’s final film, but what is the purpose of having the BMW have a short drive, fire a rocket and then be chopped in half? Not quite a Bond car is it.
