Read Roger Ebert's review on Von Trier's previous film 'Antichrist'. It'll help you understand the techniques used and why. Parts of it are meant to be slower and dragged out, its all involved with his engagement/dis-engagement of the viewer.

I was fairly uncertain where this film was going for the first half, I kept going because of the acting quality but not because anybody was engaging. Stand out performance goes to Charlotte Gainsbourg

I cannot believe this film, it is the worst piece of crap I have wasted my time on EVER. UTTER tosh. How any actor would have wanted to be in this film, even if the actor was starving and without 50p to put in his electricity meter... you would question WHY be in this movie?? I would have rather have given my money to fund fighting chickens!!

Stunning... left me reeling. An epic build up to a breathtaking ending, amazing shots and chilling music.

For those that are able to watch non-formulaic films, this is stunning and its images and scenes will stay with you for some time. The whole cast is excellent but Dunst is outstanding and deserved to win best actress at Cannes.

Unless you are looking for an orgy of depression, self loathing and helplessness, do not buy or rent this movie. Aside from the visual scenes , this movie will leave you really depressed.
