Loved this movie. It is very silly. This ‘adaptation’ adds another dimension to the Dredd mythology. Why would anyone want a frame by frame replication of a precious body of work? Urbana’s Dredd was ok but this is better.
  • Authentic Dredd...of a certain type!

This gets a lot of mud slung at it, but my God it looks just like Dredd felt back in the late 70s and very early 80s. Dredd became a sort of robocop monster in later years, but initially, he had a robot sidekick called Walter, purely as comic relief, and he went of lots of wacky sci-if adventures. I suspect few will remember his Sun newspaper strip, but this movie absolutely channels that stuff. There’s a lot not to like here, but so much is fantastic: the ABC cameo by Hammerstein, the amazing Angel gang, the Jean-Paul Gaultier designed costumes, the block war, the ship designs and, most amazingly, the fact that Game’s Workshop’s superb Judge Dredd-themed boardgame, Blockmania, had a block named after Sylvester, several years before this film’s release! But...Carl Urban’s Dredd is such a better film on every other way though😁

This is camp fun and nonsense. A long awaited and ultimately disappointing movie adaptation of the massive Dredd comic book hero. In a dystopian future, Judges are judge jury and executioner. This was something of a let-down. Fortunately, Karl Urban saved the day with his much better brutal fascist portrayal of Dredd. This is to Dredd what Carry on Screaming is to Saw.

Simple do not watch Judge Dredd, this film is just wrong in every way. Instead watch Dredd with Karl Urban that does the justice to the legacy of the action comic and Judge Dredd legacy.

There are two Judge Dredd films, one good (with Karl Urban in the titular role) and one very very bad. This is the very very bad version. In the comics on which both films are based, Judge Dredd is a mean faceless (literarily, he always wares his helmet) embodiment of fascist law. In this version, Dredd is a wise cracking, fun, super cop who never wares his helmet. To call this film Dredd would be as inaccurate as calling Deep Blue Sea "Jaws 2"... or The Phantom Menace good. To make matters worse, the film is essentially a half hearted remake of Demolition Man fettered with an over use of Rob Schnieder. On the plus side, the camp factor of the film at least gives the film a so bad it's good(ish) quality. Unless you are a fan of huge cod pieces or Rob Schnieder, avoid this.
