Description

An 18 year old girl called Joy has gone missing. Another girl called Helen is a few weeks away from leaving her care home. Helen is asked to ‘play’ Joy in a police reconstruction that will retrace Joy’s last known movements. Joy had everything. A loving family, a boyfriend, a bright future. Helen, parentless, has lived in institutions all her life and has never been close to anyone. Gradually Helen begins to immerse herself into the role, visiting the people and places that Joy knew; quietly and carefully insinuating her way into the lost girl’s life.

Looked like i was watching back on one of my old gcse media projects. This was poor filming and poor storyline. Thought i would never say that all in one sentence.

Felt like a school-made film. Pretty boring, unrealistic with amateur acting. Could've done with some better actors and much better directing and script.

One of the best films I’ve seen to have come out of the UK in years. This film requires its audience to put in a good deal of work, and by this I mean contemplative, meditative watching and listening. The film is frustratingly slow to start with and it wasn’t until began to read the film differently i.e. stop focusing solely on character, narrative and plot to guide me through the film, and started to focus on the wider themes being explored, that the film really opened up. Don’t expect an easy watch and hopefully you won’t be disappointed.

I found the film very slow, especially at the start. The acting at times was quite wooden. I felt that the film lacked a clear message and was a little muddled. Overall, very disappointed.

A gorgeous , touching and bold film, bold with the long sequences that give you time to understand the main character Helen, Great performance by lead actor and the rest of the cast, lovely camera work that is right for the screenplay, my only two points of criticism would be , I think the love scene should have been explored and more of a resolve at the end , Great film that is at one point heartbreaking ... well worth renting!
