Description

An American special agent embarks with amazing effort on a mission to recover vital material for the United States' defence. It was believed that the mighty 'unsinkable' ship contained a vital material, which could be used to make the United States impregnable to atomic attack. The ship is down too deep for divers, so the only solution is to raise it and the Herculean project must be managed in absolute secrecy – despite the extreme rigours of the climate, deadly interference from a rival nation, and the need to invent technology never before conceived. The extraordinary task is interlaced with the stories of the people and the forces working against them.

  • Bonkers but underrated

Raise The Titanic often appears on "worst film" lists. But in truth, far worse films have been made. Shot some years before the wreck was found, we now know raising the wreck as shown in the film would be impossible. But that scarcely matters because when the Titanic does break the surface in this movie, against John Barry's sublime score, it's oddly moving (and there’s a deeply poignant shot of the ship being towed past the World Trade Centre when she finally arrives in New York). Raise The Titanic isn't great art, but nor it it terrible. And to suggest it's an insult to the dead is absurd. It's a bit of entertaining fluff, nothing more or less. Sadly, this is a terrible 4:3 print of dubious quality. The recent BluRay release is much, much better. And to all the oh-so clever reviewers who bang on that the funnels broke off, or the ship broke in two...get over yourselves. The movie was made before we knew any of these things. It can hardly be blamed for that.

This film is exactly that , a FILM , Helensoprano get yourself a life , facts have nothing to do with this film , for one point this movie was made in 1980 and titanic was not actually found until 1986 by Dr Robert Ballard , only then was it confirmed as being in two . The film was a box office flop but like most films that area flop on release it gets support over the following years . The makers said it would have been easier to lower the Atlantic than to Make the 50 foot model look realistic being raised . The model is still in Malta where the water tank is , it sits alongside it and has been left open to the elements so is in a very poor condition now sadly . As for the film ? It has a decent enough story and is of course fiction . It is worth watching in my opinion

I watched this and being hearing impaired there was no subtitles....also when the TITANIC sunk the ship's funnels had fallen off...but in this film ..when they brought it up it had some of the funnels attached to it...
  • Great Film But Poor 4:3 Pan & Scan Version

Not a bad film for its time with a score by John Barry. However, the version on iTunes is 4:3 Pan & Scan of a film shot in 2.35:1 I could only stomach the first few minutes (starts in 2.35:1 in a 4:3 frame for the film credits before going full frame 4:3) then I stopped playback. Thankfully, it is being released on BD January 2014 in the USA.

I download this in a fit of nostalgia. Personally, I like it. Its a good story. There are areas where the story jumps perhaps the story may have been expanded these days to produce an epic length movie but it doesn't ruin the film. The image quality was fine viewed on my iPhone but it may as others have suggested be poorer on larger screens.

The video quality is abysmal. Plus its 4.3. The best thing about this is John Barry's score.

i was 12 years old when i went to see this film at the odeon cinema in crewe...apart from me there were about three other people in the cinema..which held about 1200....and yet to me it was magical..ok the stories not the best...but i loved the film and still do to this day....and the music by the legendary john barry is as good as it gets

I know this movie gets slated all the time but it's that bad I like it. My problem with this purchase is the very poor image quality and full screen aspect rather than original movie version. Disappointed with that.

I love this movie. It's bad in so many ways but I still love it. I recently read the novel on which it's based and I can see why Clive Cussler hated it but I still love it. The acting is a bit ropey, the effects are a bit dodgy, the plot is disjointed but the music is superb. I know there's a widescreen version out there somewhere - why isn't that on iTunes instead of the "fullscreen" version?

I know this film was made before they found it. But I find it upsetting that the only reason they raised this officially declared gravesite is to find a mineral for war. It also leaves you hoping that we could raise the ship but unfortunately its impossible due to rust and expense also it would be immoral because it is the grave of 1500 people who died on that traffic night. Not really worth the money.
