Description

Sensing that Paul Atreides, the son of Duke Leto, is the Kwizatz Haderach, a super-being, the Spacing Guild, which has a monopoly on inter-planetary travel, asks the Emperor to make sure that Paul dies. The Emperor sends Duke Leto, his family and his army to the water-starved planet Arrakis, known as Dune, where the life-prolonging spice "Melange" is mined. The Emperor goes in league with the evil Baron Harkonnen and the mythic drama unfolds: the murder of Duke Leto, the escape of Paul and his mother from the Harkonnen onslaught. But Paul gradually develops mystic skills and, allied with the desert people and mammoth sandworms they have tamed, defeats the Harkonnens. As the Guild had feared it, Paul Atreides is the man destined to bring the universe out of darkness.

Back in 1984 this was a $40 million flop, the film was ultimately a box office flop and grossed less than $31million and not the fault of movie goer's but the director and studio and not follwing through on what so many modern movies flop for. Dune was and still is ahead of it's time and for people who actually take the time and watch it, there is plot holes and things, but the iconic state makes up for it. Let6's hope Apple releases the full directors cut that was released on DVD for t6he anniversary, but this version and the 4K is edited even more than the original.

They have taken down the old HD listing, and put up a new 4K listing, but have thus far ignored iTunes policy on free 4K upgrades for people that purchased the HD version.

I wasn’t really into sci-fi when I happened to watch this film. I loved it. The style. The atmosphere. The feel. The ambience. The art. The floating fat man. This is a cult classic, a rich tapestry, a sumptuous ride full of famous faces. I was hooked the first time I saw it. Wonderful stuff! Long live the fighters.... Muad'Dib. Muad'Dib. Muad'Dib. Muad'Dib.

    This should not be allowed!

Don’t understand iTunes 4k policy not applying here, yes title was relisted but it has managed to hold on to reviews that are years old, is from the same studio so should qualify for legacy upscale.

I purchased Dune only a couple of months ago expecting to be upgraded to 4K once available. Now I know this is not the case I won’t be purchasing anymore movies unless they are 4K. Especially when Apple previously stated this would be the case.

Why does this happen. iTunes need to sort this issue out. It destroys any faith in the service and will affect peoples purchasing choices. Come on iTunes sort this out !!!
  • Where’s the upgrade to 4K?

Sadly, this is yet another film on iTunes where the studio has relisted it to avoid upgrading existing copies to 4k HDR. The end result is that on search results on the TV app or on iTunes this film appears as unowned, and can easily result in someone accidentally purchasing it again. A greedy practice that Apple should clamp down on.

I own the HD version of Dune distributed by Lionsgate! However this 4K release has just come out as a separate purchase also released by Lions gate but the HD version has not been updated… Disappointing!!!
