Description

The Dakota Territories 1879. A handful of brave pioneers maintain isolated settlements in the badlands beyond civilization. Irish immigrant Fergus Coffey is near to winning the hand of his beloved Maryanne when she is suddenly taken from him, her family brutally abducted in a nighttime attack on their homestead. Suspicion falls immediately on hostile Indians. Experienced Indian fighters Will Parcher and John Clay form a posse and set out to rescue the kidnapped settlers. But as men vanish in the night, and horrific evidence accumulates with the dead and dying, the group discovers that their prey is far more terrifying than anything human, and their prospects are far more terrible than death.

I quite enjoyed this film. With it being a horror style western was quite refreshing! Some bits i must admit were slightly silly, but the overall film quite good, definately gave me itchy feet lol ;) x

Easy to review... A sort of zombie / vampire film in the old wild west in terms of creatures of the night. A bit slow in parts but overall a great story with some real emotion of how it must of been in the olden days in the US when Injuns were really feared. Not really a horror, nor a western but a combination of mildish horror/thriller with a Victorian Era back-drop. In a nutshell, worth the dosh only get a few mates over with some cans and make it a night.

As another reviewer pointed out, it is a nice take on known genre. It is refreshing to see it unfold in the late 19th century Mid-Western territories of the post-Civil War USA. The story line stays interesting. It is well worth renting, but as I sometimes say, it won't to be a classic, at least in my mind. The creatures, and their habits, well, they're from a known cast type. Not much plot around the what and why, but enough to answer some lazy questions. A good rent, but a pass if you're looking for keeps.

Could be a very good film this in the year of its remake. ...so not a great film. But it is different which was nice, and not at all in the bad film catagory. Should you rent it? yes, i would. But not if your really banking on a great film for the night. Just worth renting thats all.
  • Rather pointless in the end

A brilliant take on the horror genre. Simialr to the horror Dead Birds, The Burrowers has the strange combination of a western film turned into a horror. The creatures know as the burrowers are not properly seen until well into the film. The hunt their victims, cut their necks and spit a toxin into the blood which causes the victim to become paralysed. They then bury the victim alive and don't come back until decomposition has taken affect. The acting is brilliant and the plot in brilliant. Overall this is a good horror film. If you like this then i recommend Dead Birds, it has a similar western horror theme, but a more supernatural genre.
