Description

Anyone who says that money is the root of all evil, doesn't have it. Welcome to the new American Dream. Eager to show his aloof father that he can succeed in life, an ambitious, intelligent college dropout takes a job at a small stock brokerage firm, where he meets with great success. But when he learns that the company is selling worthless securities to gullible buyers, he realizes the cost of his ambitions--and how deeply embroiled he has become in the scam.

I saw this a few years ago and loved it, engaging & thought provoking. It was also a nice surprise to see Vin Diesel doing some 'real' acting, he should do more! For a 99p rent its a no-brainer!

Boiler Room is a compelling watch and quite accurate in the way these brokers operate. I myself once received a call from such a place, and luckily had the intelligence and fortitued not to be suckered in by the miscreant at the end of the phone line, who would have been quite happy to relieve me of my life savings without the blink of an eye. Whilst they in the film ultimately got their just desserts, the real life Boiler Rooms (ie. the Banks) still carry on plundering the public coffers without a second thought for Joe Public, and all quite legally. That's the real crime!
  • Utter awfulness

Awful, awful, awful awful. Just awful. Some awful things are entertaining because they're so bad/cheesy, but this was just plain awful. It's also tremendously dull - I couldn't wait for it to be over. There's barely a story-line, and the scrap of one there is - I didn't get, because I'm not a broker. God knows how Giovanni thingy got into Hollywood, because not only is he unpleasant to look it, he drawls - which makes him very hard to understand, and monotonous to listen to. This is a major problem in this film, since he's the narrator. And as for the Ben Affleck character - oh my word, what an idiotic characature. I think this might even be the worst film I have seen in my life. Complete waste of money
