It was actually the 7th Apollo mission!

This has aged amazingly well - it's engrossingly acted, well-paced, tightly scripted and the special effects are (mostly) entirely convincing. The only thing that's dated is James Horner's overblown Titanic-era musical score, which feels emotionally intrusive by today's standards.
  • Top 10 of all time.

Apollo 13 tells the story of the so nearly-doomed third flight to the moon, which proceeded as normal for 55 hours before a routine oxygen tank stir caused a life-threatening explosion to rip through the fragile craft, turning the mission from one of exploration to one of simply surviving. Ron Howard directs a cast including Tom Hanks, Ed Harris, Bill Paxton and Gary Sinise, retelling the heart-stopping drama which occurred more than 200,000 miles from the Earth and the sheer ingenuity and relentless effort of both the three-man crew and the hundreds of controllers on the ground. Over four days they worked together, re-inventing and testing the limits of the Apollo spacecraft which ultimately led to Jim Lovell, Fred Haise and Jack Swigert nursing their crippled command module back home against all the odds.

I don't normally like films to do with Space but this is simply fantastic. It keeps you on the edge of your seat but at the same time is very heart warming and moving, Tom Hanks is as good as he always is. Β£6.99 seems very expensive, so i'd order it online.

This film is undoubtably one of the most moving space films ever to be made, and possibly Ron Howards best work.
