Description

Working together for the 12th time, John Wayne and director John Ford forged The Searchers into an indelible image of the frontier and the men and women who challenged it. Wayne plays ex-Confederate soldier Ethan Edwards, a believer more in bullets than in words. He's seeking his niece, captured by Comanches who massacred his family. He won't surrender to hunger, thirst, the elements or loneliness. And in his obsessive, five-year quest, Ethan encounters something he didn't expect to find: his own humanity.

Many have called this the Best Cowboy Film ever. I dont disagree. If you outline the plot, it sounds like an ordeal to watch. I have never been one for watching films involving "a journey" to find redemption or a goal. The Searchers keeps you engaged throughout, with a great cast, a good script with plenty of twists and the spectular scenery of Monument Valley and Bronson Canyon. Have watched several times ans still enjoy.

Beautifully shot! No wonder it's one of Martin Scorsese's favourite films. John Ford and John Wayne at their (almost) best!!!!!

He got it (eventually) for True Grit but he should have won it for Ethan Edwards - absolutely brilliant.

This is a great film. Why do the folks at itunes feel the need to make so many films rent only or buy only? THIS IS THE MOST IRRITATING THING ABOUT ITUNES! Like many people, I want to see a film once - when I've seen it, I don't need to see it again.
