I am pretty sure I have seen this film before but I could not remember the story, so it was lovely to watch an old film as if it was new. Watch out though, it is certainly good at pulling out your emotions, I needed a box of tissues for the majority of the film! Love or dislike Sandra Bullock, if you are in the right mood, some of her romantic films are spot on - I am not sure how she does it but she makes me feel her vulnerability and I always want her to have a happy ending. If you liked 'The Lake House' you will like this film. Also worth noting the pre-Adele, Bob Dylan version of 'Feel my Love' - it is used beautifully in this film, along with a bit of Bryan Adams.

I don't know why but I was expecting this film to be funny, which it is not. It's very touching, hard hitting and deals with some big emotional issues. And of course sugary sweet at times. The actresses playing Bullock's mother and daughter shine throughout the film and the scene with the little girl and her dad is heartbreaking. I cried through the whole film but enjoyed it immensely - must remember to check the reviews next time I am looking for a funny film!
  • A surprise

This sugary-looking film, with it's ultra- soft pastel colour scheme, country score, and diffuse sun dappled cinematography has a few unexpected emotional wallops along the way, especially in the form of the young actress who plays Sandra Bullock's daughter. The film is predictable and reassuring as you'd expect, but the moments of raw emotional truth cut through and give the film a weight it would otherwise float away with.
