Description

Directed by Academy Award winner Robert Redford, the story begins after two determined students at a West Coast University, Arian (DEREK LUKE) and Ernest (MICHAEL PENA), follow the inspiration of their idealistic professor, Dr. Malley (REDFORD), and attempt to do something important with their lives. But when the two make the bold decision to join the battle in Afghanistan, Malley is both moved and distraught. Now, as Arian and Ernest fight for survival in the field, they become the string that binds together two disparate stories on opposite sides of America. In California, an anguished Dr. Malley attempts to reach a privileged but disaffected student (ANDREW GARFIELD) who is the very opposite of Arian and Ernest. Meanwhile, in Washington D.C. the charismatic Presidential hopeful, Senator Jasper Irving (CRUISE), is about to give a bombshell story to a probing TV journalist (STREEP) that may affect Arian and Ernests' fates. As arguments, memories and bullets fly, the three stories are woven ever more tightly together, revealing how each of these Americans has a profound impact on each other and the world.

The cast is phenomenal, the plot line painfully relevant and contrary to other reviews I've read I did not find this at all preachy or the dialogue clunky. Compelling viewing!

You need to be in the right frame of mind to see this film. It is extremely powerful and topical and is a film that you have to focus and appreciate. I found Lions for Lambs an emotion filled, engaging experience but I understand it may not appeal to all. I would recommend it however to those who enjoy a thought provoking, intelligent film. Excellent moving making.

This was truly the worst film i've seen all year. The acting itself wasn't bad (as expected from the cast) but the screenplay was just so bad. Save ur money & watch something else. Philip Seymour Hoffman got a few films out at the mo, check em out (Savages, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead & Charlie Wilson's War)

It's good to see this kind of issue covered by quality productions like this. Added to that it's delivered by actors of serious calibre. Cracking dialogue especially between Redford and his student, Streep is beautifully pensive and Cruise plays out the senator role with fine class.

Although this movie was slated by most American reviewers, I figured that I'd give it a try purely on the basis of the talent within it. And what a great surprise it was! Superb performances from all; a stellar Tom Cruise and an always excellent Meryl Streep. However, if you're one for a whole host of action, this wont be for you. But if you like a good old political thriller this is possibly one of the best, most gripping, you'll be able to find in recent times.

I chose to watch this movie purely on the back of the reputation of the actors / actress in it. I must say that I was very disappointed. I will be interested to know what others that may have seen the movie thinks. Maybe I need to watch it again for it to make sense!
