WICKED:FOR GOOD. The darker and more emotional second act to last years more frivolous part one.. I LOVED it.. though I can see after the initial wow factors of the first film, why some could feel less enthusiastic. BUT.. it has the crux of the story and that IS dark.. I loved the re-interpretation of the shows opening of act 2.. a slower more reflective I COULDN’T BE HAPPIER.. was lovely .. the two new songs built more of the characters story arc and both AS LONG AS YOU’RE MINE and NO GOOD DEED continue to be two of my favourite songs from the show. What works so well here, is the emotional arc between Glinda, Elphaba and Fiyero.. then there are all the ends to be tied up.. the animals, Dorothy, The Tin man and the Scarecrow.. The wizard getting his bitter pill.. why the winged monkeys join Elphaba.. with so much detail, romance, sadness and darkness, the second act is bound to be more considered when viewed alone.. but when viewed next to part one.. it’s absolutely fantastic.. the end (For Good) and a glorious epilogue.. (with a wonderful Easter egg as the last scene) .. made me really take a moment before flying over the rainbow home.. Some reviews have criticised it as A SEQUEL… it’s NOT!… it was filmed at the same time as the first one… it’s definitely ACT 2. Ignore those silly reviews.. and see last years wait as ‘The Interval’. Everyone is great again but this really is Ariana’s film..she is heartbreaking and quite magical, as is the film..along with part one..they will stay with me FOR GOOD …and I couldn’t be happier.
