The Commandant's Shadow tells the story of 87-year-old Hans Jürgen Höss, whose father Rudolf Höss was commandant of the Auschwitz extermination camp and responsible for the murder of more than a million Jews. While young Hans-Juergen enjoyed an "idyllic" childhood in Auschwitz at the family home, Jewish teenager Anita Lasker Wallfisch was fighting for survival on the other side of the fence. Eight decades later, the two come face to face as Hans-Juergen confronts his father's terrible legacy.
