An important historical film. Cannot rate it higher, if you have not had the pleasure of watching it yet. Enjoy.
  • It’s a courtroom drama…yep, really

Have been trying to figure out how to describe this. Basically it’s a courtroom drama with tons of flashbacks, where the hero/defendant happens to be the man who oversaw the creation of the first atomic weapon. The accusation: he’s a communist. And in fact, communism is a core part of the film, right from the start…and kind of weird that no-one has really talked about that, as the story hinges on this. The making of atomic weapons is in some ways a secondary subject, albeit a key one, as it forms the background for the drama…but not the drama itself. PS The scenes with Einstein were particularly riveting. Overall, an unusual story, and as noted, it’s fundamentally a courtroom drama (without a court) to decide how we should view Oppenheimer.

Cannot for the life of me see why so many critics loved it, why so many give it five stars or why it’s in line to win so many awards. I’ve liked a number of Nolan’s films but can’t include this amongst them. I would actually describe it as awful. Simply awful.
  • One of the best films I have ever watched.

With regards to the viewing quality, went to watch it a few times in the cinema. Although nothing can replicate the cinema, this on a big-screened device, along with a great pair of headphones, is the closest you can get. If you want to get even closer, turn up the bass on the headphones, which makes it sound more like the imax. 5 stars from me

This was so boring I fell asleep just lots of men talking for three hours… good actors but waste of time

The hype for this movie is unreal but watching paint dry is more enduring than this.

I first saw this in an IMAX cinema, and it blew me away. Er, no pun intended. Oppenheimer is like something from a bygone age; an epic, big budget character piece that revolves almost entirely on dialogue? What is this, the 1970’s? And throw in some phenomenal visuals and truly bone rattling audio. I think it’s something of a modern masterpiece. I even loved the contentious last hour as I found the post WW2 McCarthy era aftermath fascinating. An easy 9.5 out of 10 for me, one of the finest films made this century. My only problem with this release; why do the digital versions of Nolan films insist on not including the IMAX sequences in their “original” aspect ratio?? Let’s get this sorted finally.
