Description

“The Little Mermaid” is visionary filmmaker Rob Marshall’s live-action reimagining of Disney’s beloved animated musical classic, the story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea and, while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy. “The Little Mermaid” is directed by Rob Marshall with a screenplay by David Magee, and is produced by Marc Platt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, John DeLuca and Rob Marshall. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.

This one is a tricky one, it was loaded with CGI which was needed to create the underwater universe, I also have to admit that most of the budget was spend on Ariel which was perfectly designed ! Halle play the role wonderfully her singing definitely was a 10/10 they couldn’t have cast anyone better for the role, they truly captured all the iconic moment of the classic in a form of almost tabloid artistic way which I really appreciate, Rob marshal went back to the original book and used also some of the book illustrations which made me fell in love with the movie, I didn’t like the end found it extremely cheesy so personally will stop watching after Ariel and Eric kiss but this is my personal preference, I believe it is a movie for someone who appreciate diversity, open minded with a sensitivity to art and Romance and a surprise for people who love mermaid as they were a lot of historical and other movie references, also I believe this movie might not be the best for kids under 8y0 as the movie is extremely longue !

As a massive fan of the original animated movie (and that’s underplaying it) this retelling more than justifies its existence. Ignoring a few dud moments or missed opportunities, it’s mostly fantastic. There’s enough small but meaningful changes to make it worthwhile, without veering off course from the story we know and love. Go in with an open mind and give it the chance to impress you, and it surely will. Halle is spectacular.

Came into it blind - I’m not one of these “boo-hoo, they’ve changed a mythical sea creature’s skin colour” type of people. And anyway, why are you complaining? She’s fit. If you focusing and complaining about the gender or race of a fictional character in ANY film, you are a bigot. It’s as simple as that. Anyway, I found I quite enjoyed it - let’s face it, NONE of these Disney live action remakes are needed or come anywhere near their animated counterparts, but for what it is, it was fun. For me, it’s probably the best one so far. Sebastian is a bit creepy, mind.

It makes some fun changes whilst staying true to the original. Halle Bailey is the perfect Ariel, the new songs are fab and it’s visually really pretty.

Don’t be put off by a lot of negativity surrounding this film - in a lot of cases this film wasn’t made for those people. This is a wonderfully feel good (and quite romantic) reimagining of my favourite Disney renaissance film. The new songs really add something and Bailey is a delight as Ariel. Loved the additional time spent on Ariel and Erics relationship - he was dreamy too!
