It’s a mess of a film, awful storyline, questionable acting from a pretty strong cast, really a painful way to spend the time.

Been waiting a while to watch this and when I saw it was £1.99 to rent decided to give it a go. I’m a big fan of Vikings and The Last Kingdom and this has a great cast. Unfortunately I found it a complete bore fest and wanted to turn it off after 20 minutes but my wife wanted to see where it went. We endured the rest of the film and it didn’t get any better.

Gritty and raw after a bizarre start. Powerful film but slow and I wouldn’t need to watch it twice.
  • I actually quite liked it

This movie should have been great but the plot is all over the place, cliched violence without a thread of the story - what has happened to American movies? Big budget, good Actors but poorly constructed story. Wished I had not purchased it as could not finish the movie.

This is a visually arresting and gripping adventure yarn, which sees a Viking raider hell bent on revenge on those who wronged him in his childhood. The arresting locations and scenery, a particularly impressive raid on a village, and Bjork in a great cameo are some of the highlights. If you’re a fan of Eggers previous films, The VVitch and The Lighthouse, then you know you’re in for an atmospheric treat here. Even if it is a slightly “watered down” version of what he’d likely have made had this not been a major studio, big budget release. Well worth checking out.

I went into this film hoping for something good as I loved Eggers’ other films. I wasn’t disappointed. Looks great. Acting is excellent. Don’t expect a popcorn flick. It’s harder and meaner than that.

A visual spectacle that really was amazing at the cinema. Such a shame that it really didn’t work. Lots or testosterone and grunting. Plenty of beautiful bodies trying to look normal and not sculpted. I guess this is trying ti be gritty but it just didn’t work.
