Description

Enthralling and intimate, director Daniel Roher’s Navalny unfolds with the pace of a thriller as it follows Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny in his quest to identify the men who poisoned him in August 2020. Shot in Germany as the story unfolded and offering extraordinary access to the investigation, Navalny is a fly-on-the-wall documentary that is also a study of Navalny the man -a portrait of a leader intent on reform who will not be cowed by anything, including his own poisoning.

  • A remarkable and timely film

This film feels more than important right now. Following Navalny as he manages to escape being poisoned to death, to his re-entry into Russia, this is a proper behind-the-scenes look at the reality of his world, and also how his wife, children and colleagues cope with the pressures that walk alongside everything he does. There are some breakthrough moments, poignant scenes and a real contrast between old-style, repressive politics and the freer world this man is in favour of. We can only hope that his supporters at home, often young people, who want the same, continue to hold their nerve. An intense portrayal of a man I can only hope gets to run his homeland. Worthy of every award it garners, it is a great watch.
