Description

Directed by acclaimed photographer and film-maker Alasdair McLellan to accompany Saint Etienne's first sample-driven album since their 1993 classic So Tough, I've Been Trying to Tell You is a road movie like no other. Developed out of McLellan's memories of listening to the band's music as a bored teenager in a village near Doncaster, South Yorkshire, the resulting film evokes the ethereal optimism of the 90s era through a fog of memory that is beautiful, hypnotic and all-enveloping. There's a whole lifetime's worth of locations in there: Avebury, Portmeirion, Doncaster and Grangemouth, as well as London. Looking back, even the boredom seems idyllic - and a big part of its soundtrack was Saint Etienne.
